I met Mandalyn at church one of the first times we went after moving to the city. She has a 2 year old and I was bouncing Atticus during the service so naturally there was that "hey fellow young mom" magnetism going on. In talking after the service I found out that she was a photographer, and that we both had a thing for lifestyle sessions. I follow a photographer who started with primarily lifestyle, and it seemed like such a natural and authentic concept to have photos taken of a family in their home, doing what they do. So, I was excited to just happen to meet a photographer who saw the beauty in that!
Mandalyn is one of the gentlest, most sincere souls I know, which is especially helpful in a lifestyle photographer. Instead of feeling awkward about having an extra person in our home who was there to take pictures of us, it felt like we just had a friend over for breakfast. While she shot we chatted about where we're all from, what brought us to Chicago, parenting, and what work looks like for each of us at this stage.
For the first few months especially, our family Saturdays looked something like this: cinnamon rolls, play time, then downtown to explore. I'm so glad that we were able to document one of these Saturdays. As busy as life can feel now I know that we'll look back on these days with little A and remember how simple and beautiful this season is.
